Apple Confirms Primesense Acquisition

AllThingsD gets a confirmation from Apple that it has bought Primesense for a price closer to $360M, according to ATD sources:

Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet confirmed the PrimeSense deal with the boilerplate comment the company typically provides when news of one of its acquisitions leaks: “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Globes reports that the deal was finally closed on Friday, Nov. 22.

Update: Primesense confirms the acquisition in an email to EETimes-Europe: "We can confirm the deal with Apple. Further than that, we cannot comment at this stage."

  1. Seems to me that in October 2010, 3 years ago, Primesense's valuation was $300M during an investment round. So, 15% return after 3 years....

Perhaps now Aptina can have a way to enter the Apple core, besides sending top talent...

Well, congrats to the Primesense team and I hope the acquisition works out well for Apple.

    1. I was informed that the Aptina - Primesense relationship is only for older products. So, forget about snarky comment #2.

  2. Somebody at Aptina was overheard by somebody he was talking to saying that there is a "highway leading to Apple". But even this high placed individual would not say why Apple needs so much imaging talent.
